Mughal Road, Singthantop routes pose Corona threats in safe districts of Jammu region
5/9/2020 12:05:40 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 8: Mughal Road and Singthantop-two entry points of Jammu region with Kashmir Valley, are likely to be proved dangerous for the people of this province because many people would try to sneak from Valley through these two routes to Jammu region.
Poonch and Kishtwar districts-which connects Kashmir Valley through Mughal Road and Singthantop are free from Coronavirus situation as of now but there is fear among administration that sneaking of people from these two routes will create problems in the days to come. Mughal Road connects Shopian district of Kashmir Valley and Singthantop connects with Anantnag district. In both these districts of Kashmir Valley, numbers of Coronavirus cases are increasing with every passing day.
Wishing anonymity, a senior officer said that both Mughal Road and Singthantop routes should be closed for this summer to protect residents of Poonch-Rajouri and Kishtwar-Doda from deadly virus.
Credible sources said administration is seriously thinking over not opening these two tracks during this summer but some elements are opposing this move.
Although all roads connecting Rajouri and Poonch districts with rest of the country have been sealed, sneaking of some people through Mughal Road is a matter of concern for the authorities.
The 84-km Mughal road, an alternate link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic in the month of December last year after high-altitude areas along the way experienced heavy snowfall.
Keeping in view surging number of corona positive cases in Kashmir Valley, Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam, had recently asked Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Poonch and Shopian districts to work out a plan to establish check points at Mughal road, one at Poshana and other at Peer ki Gali to regulate vehicular traffic once the road is open for vehicular traffic.
