EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 10: Defying lockdown and without having the requisite travelling permission from the District Magistrate (DM), a Sub Inspector (SI) of Traffic Police posted in Jammu city reportedly transported his relatives to Punjab in a private car recently.
Well informed sources informed Early Times that a week ago a Sub Inspector of Traffic Police Jammu, abusing his official position took his relatives to Punjab in violation of guidelines of COVID-19 protocol. “The officer crossing the jurisdiction of Traffic Police Jammu city and the Jammu rural reached Punjab. The officer even had argument with Punjab Police officials posted at Madhopur, Punjab when resisted for unauthorized entry into Punjab. He dropped his relatives at their destination somewhere in Punjab and returned back same day”, sources said, adding that the Punjab Police officials, who tried to stop the officer in their area, took up the matter with their higher authorities.
“Resented over the act of an Officer, the Punjab Police took up the matter with Jammu Police and later on the entire incident was brought into notice of higher authorities of J&K Traffic Police. Meanwhile, the claims made by Punjab Police were also cross-checked and established by Jammu Police”, sources said.
They said that to ascertain the complaint of Punjab Police the Traffic Police and district Police checked footage of CCTVs installed at various locations along Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. “In preliminary verification, it has been established that the officer visited Punjab recently as alleged by the Punjab Police”, they said, adding that the Traffic Police has ordered an inquiry into the alleged misconduct of officer that brought bad name for the entire department.
“It will also be verified whether the officer had movement pass from the DM or not,” he said.
Meanwhile, the SSP Traffic Jammu Joginder Singh, when contacted said that he acknowledged the allegations against the officer for breaking the protocol. “An inquiry has been ordered into the matter, I can’t say anything as the inquiry is ongoing”, he added.
