CMO Baramulla under scanner for calling Covid-19 ‘improperly’
5/20/2020 11:54:47 PM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 20: The Chief Medical Officer Barmulla has come under scanner for inviting bids for procurement of items linked to Covid19, allegedly in violation of the laid down norms.
Official sources said the office issued notice in this regard through a private agency instead of the Information Department, which is supposed to be the nodal agency for dissemination of such information into the masses.
Official sources said the office had issued the notification for procurement of items including PPEs, triple layer masks, sanitizers etc.
“In view of emergency raised due to COVID-19 pandemic, sealed short term quotations are invited from registered Manufactures/Agencies/suppliers for applying of following emergency items regarding COVID-19 on lowest market rate to this office,” reads a copy of the notification.
The items include “1 PPE Kits 2 Triple layer Masks 3 Sanitizers 4 Shoe Covers 5 Caps 6 Gowns 7 Liquid Soaps 8 Dangri 9 Mattresses 10 Bed Sheets(Disposable ),” the notification reads. The documents were kept available with the office of the CMO and the quotations should reach in the office. The quotations are supposed to be opened “on the same date or on the next feasible date at 2:30 PM.”
The concerned said under norms the notification should have been made public through Information department so that it reaches concerned quarters in a transparent manner.
“Why should such a notification be issued through private player. If there is no hanky panky why was the notification not released through proper channel to avoid any unwanted controversy,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the issue has reached the concerned quarters and that an explanation was likely to be called seeking reply from the CMO.
When contacted the concerned office of the CMO refuted charges of any violation of norms. “Things are being done professionally in a free and fair manner and we’re open to scrutiny,” said an official in the office of the CMO on the condition of anonymity.
