Munish Gupta asks government to provide basic amenities to the residents
Residents of Extension Gandhi Nagar still denied of proper lanes, drains, cleanliness

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jun 7: The residents of Extension Gandhi Nagar Jammu are still denied proper lanes, drains, cleanliness and proper hygienic conditions in their locality. The residents are perturbed over the denial of basic amenities in their locality which is causing much inconvenience to them and speaks volumes about the neglect shown by the successive representatives of the area.
The C/C Extension Gandhi Nagar is part of Gandhi Nagar constituency, which is a posh locality of the Jammu city but the dilapidated lanes and bylanes, garbage littered along the nooks and corners of roads and leakage in the water supply pipes narrates the tale of utter neglect at the hands of people at the helm of affairs, who had been representing the constituency.
The residents of the area said that the roads in the area were in dilapidated condition. The road is full of potholes as well as dug up in a few places for mending the water supply pipes. “The workers of the water supply division dug up the roads to mend the supply system but once the road was dug up, it was never repaired”, the locals said, adding that the so called political representatives were least bothered about such issues.
“The roads are not properly blacktopped or metalled by the concerned authorities. Sometimes in the name of repairs, some patch work was done by the department but the concerned representatives didn’t bother about proper macdmization of the roads in the area”, the residents said.
They further said that garbage could be seen littered around every nook and corners of the lanes and by-lanes as there were no proper facilities to put the garbage. “Heaps of garbage could be seen along lanes, while some placed the garbage on the embankments over the drains”, the residents said, adding the littered garbage emanated foul smell, creating nuisance for them.
The residents also said that in absence of the proper drainage system, waste water from some of the houses flowed directly to the lanes and got accumulated in the pits and potholes. “Apart from the rainy season, even during the year, the ditches and potholes could be found filled with water, making it difficult to move around the areas”, the residents said.
The residents further claimed that the Municipal authorities have failed to provide basic amenities to them as the garbage remained unattended for days together, thus creating problems for them. “Some of the garbage ultimately reaches into drains and frequently chokes them”, the residents said, adding that but the local authorities were least bothered about them.
The residents said that they are craving for the basic amenities and it is the duty of the government to provide them all these facilities. They said that people of the area are living a primitive life since the basic amenities are being denied to them.
Munish Gupta, Editor-in-Chief Early Times has demanded that the government should pay immediate attention to the problems of the people living in the C/C Extension Gandhdi Nagar area. Munish Gupta said that providing basic amenities to the people was the primary responsibility of the government but in Extension Gandhi Nagar, the people have been left at the mercy of God. Munish Gupta who is going to contest the next assembly election from Gandhi Nagar constituency as an independent candidate said that the residents are not only entitled to basic things but availing basic amenities is the right of the people and government must ensure the same. He said that swift action is needed and the government should speed-up the process of mitigating the problems of people.
