Srinagar, June 28: To revive their activities, Pakistan sponsored terror outfits are using women as couriers to transport arms, provide logistic support and lure Kashmiri youth to join terror ranks.
The arrest of Naseema Bano, mother of killed Hizbul terrorist, has blown the lid off a new ugly trend of using women to motivate youngsters in the Valley to pick up the gun against India. Naseem Bano's activities came under the scanner when police came across her photo, in which she is seen holding a gun.
In this photo, gun-toting Naseem is sitting next to her son Tauseef, who was then an active terrorist. This picture was clicked, when Naseema had gone to meet her son in one of his hideout in South Kashmir. A few weeks later her son was killed in one of the encounters with security forces. However, this did not stop Naseema from continuing with her liaison with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and her support to terror-related activities.
According to police, Naseema is involved in serious criminal cases. Security agencies claim that photo is just the beginning of her terror involvement. Besides luring youngsters to gun culture by recruiting them into terror ranks, Naseema was also involved in arranging arms, ammunition, communication and logistics for terror outfits operating in South Kashmir.
Soon after her arrest, terror sympathisers have started misinformation campaign on social media to demonise police force.
Unleashing of this campaign is part of their terror strategy to instigate people by projecting woman involved in terror-related activities as victim and police as the oppressor for arresting her.
It is with this intention, facts have been twisted in order to disturb peace and tranquillity in Kashmir. Police have taken cognisance of the matter and warned that anyone trying to instigate others through whatsoever means will be prosecuted against.
Giving details of Naseema's role in terror-related activities, Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone through official twitter handle clarified that Naseema was involved in recruiting youth into terrorist ranks.
''Jammu and Kashmir Police do not target the family of terrorists without evidence,’’ stated tweet. In response to the misinformation campaign on social media.
Earlier police in its statement had mentioned that just because Naseema happens to be a woman or the mother of a killed terrorist does not make her immune to arrest. ''It is the prime duty of the police to arrest criminals to safeguard the people it serves and that is what it has done. Anyone who wishes to challenge the decision is free to approach the court of law for redressal,'' read a police statement.
FIR No. 30 of 2018 registered under sections 13B, 17, 18, 18B, 19, 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act against Naseema. The arrest was done in compliance of provisions of law and she has been under legally sanctioned custody in women police station Anantnag ever since her arrest.
Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujahideen has come out with warning, threatening the Jammu and Kashmir Police of dire consequences if the mother of a slain terrorist is not released at the earliest.
It’s in place to mention here that on May 3, 2020, Insha Jan and her father, Tariq Shah were arrested by NIA for providing logistic support to terrorists involved in Pulwama bombing in which 40 CRPF personnel were martyred. Tariq Shah’s house was used by Pakistani and local Jaish terrorist for recording video of suicide bomber Adil Dar, which was subsequently released by Jaish –e-Muhammad (JeM) soon after Pulwama attack. Besides providing food and logistic support Insha Jan was in constant touch with Umar Farooq, Pakistani IED maker, through phone and social media. She also used to inform them about the security forces' movement in that area.
On November 15, 2018, A 29-year-old, Salma was arrested by J&K Police. Police during checking had recovered 20 grenades and 365 bullets from her possession. She was nabbed, when a vehicle was stopped upon specific intelligence input about the movement of over-ground-workers (OGW) of terrorists.
In March 2005 a woman suicide bomber blew her off on Jammu Srinagar National Highway to target security forces convoy. This incident sent alarm bells ringing among security circle. Jaish had then claimed that she was its suicide bomber.
A major jolt that Pakistan sponsored terror outfits have received at the hands of security forces have led jihadis to once again use women as couriers, recruiters and other terror-related activities. Since January 1, more than 100 terrorists including a top commander of Jaish, Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) have been eliminated in different counter-terror operations.
‘’As a part of terror strategy, women have been deliberately made part of their overground network, so that they can checkmate security agencies. Women cops are not deployed at each and every place. For soldiers on the ground, it is not possible to check every woman passing by. Terrorists are trying to take advantage of this situation by using women to transport arms from one place to other,’’ said senior security force officer.
