Early Times Report

Jammu, July 17: The senior IAS officer who has been in the news for returning around Rs 40 lakhs, which he had allegedly acquired illegally from a semi-government organisation, is likely to be shifted outside the J&K UT.
Sources told Early Times that Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu has taken a strong note of the case and has made it clear that any breach of proprietary laws by the bureaucrats won’t be tolerated.
They said that apart from the recovery initiated against him and a probe by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the officer is likely to be shifted before August 15, 2020.
“The Raj Bhawan came to know about the huge wealth amassed by the officer through touts”, sources said, adding that he has partnership with the local businessmen in his real-estate business. “The bureaucrat has been investing ill-gotten money in various projects in Jammu city and other businesses. A close relative of this IAS officer along with his partner are managing the businesses here,” they said.
“The LG is aware about all the misdeeds of the officer as the Raj Bhawan has been receiving complaints against him regularly. Within a month i.e. before 15 August, some major changes can take place in J&K administration at high level”, sources said, adding that LG Murmu has been keeping a close watch on bureaucrats.
It is pertinent to mention here that Early Times in its June 7, 2020 edition had carried a story regarding Government’s surgical strike against Corruption and had reported ‘misappropriation’ of Rs 60 lakhs by the officer and the recovery initiated by the LG administration. Almost 6 weeks later, the entire episode has come into public domain.
The administration had recovered Rs 39.69 lakh from a senior IAS officer he allegedly took from an organisation and recommended a probe into the alleged illegal monetary benefits, sources said on Thursday.
“The officer remitted an amount of Rs 39,69,359 back to the organisation recently. The officer further submitted that Rs 20,86,120 has been deducted as TDS and deposited with the Income Tax department”, sources said.
