Corruption, nepotism hallmarks of BGBSU VC’s tenure, allege Rajouri’s BDC chairpersons

EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAJOURI, Aug 27: Chairpersons of several Block Development Councils (BDCs) of district Rajouri today alleged that incumbent Vice Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), has ruined the prestigious varsity by appointing deadwood retired people on administrative positions during his tenure and the malpractice to further degrade the institution is still going on.
Addressing media persons, half a dozen BDCs of different blocks of district Rajouri said that the Lieutenant Governor’s administrations should immediately take action and curb the unabated corruption and nepotism in the University. “Decline of the University started from the day when Prof Javed Masrat joined here, he preferred outsiders rather than the locals when it came to recruitment. It was in the constitution of the University that preference will be given to locals in case of employment as well as the education, but he changed entire discourse to adjust his relatives and friends. The reemployed people by the Prof Masrat in University are between 60-80 years of age”, they said, adding that to satisfy his ego Prof Masrat overlooked UGC’s guidelines for reemployment of retried staff including Prof Iqbal Perwaiz.
“Presently, the majority of administrative positions in the University are being manned by the retired and re-employed relatives and friends of VC. These deadwoods have spoiled the University”, they said, adding that though the ACB has registered a number of corruption cases, but none could reach to its logical conclusion. “Three scandals involving crores of rupees were surfaced during his term, the State Vigilance Organization (SVO) now Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered cases but, the investigations linger on”, they said, adding that it seems that the ACB and other agencies are hands in glove with the corrupt administration of the University. They said that the complaints of the sexual harassments in the campus are on rise, but the same are being hushed up by discouraging the victims. “Dr Shahid Iqbal as DC Rajouri had ordered an enquiry into the complaints of sexual harassment in the University, but the enquiry could not reach its logical conclusion”, they added.
The press conference was addressed by BDC chairman Block Rajouri, Darbar Chowdhary, BDC chairman Block Darhal, Khalak Firdoz, BDC chairman Block Doongi, Mohd Rayaz, BDC chairman Block Planger, Parveen Akhter, BDC chairman Block Dhangri, Tazeem Akhther, Sarpanch Panchyat Dhanore Dhendian, Aftab Majeed, Sarpanch Panchyat Ratal, Abdul Rehman, Sarpanch Panchyat Nagrota Saldar, Chowdhary Shabir and Sarpanch Panchyat Chowdhary Nar, Mohd Azam.
