Shantmanu exhorts stakeholders to work in tandem for promotion of J&K’s handmade carpets

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles Government of India, Shantmanu has asked all the stakeholders- J&K Handicrafts, Central Handicrafts and Regional office CEPC to work in tandem to revive and promote the Handmade Carpet Industry of J&K.
During his recent visit to Srinagar in connection with the 40th India Carpet Expo Virtual Fair, Shantmanu directed the J&K Handicrafts department to fully avail the benefits of schemes introduced by Government of India for the promotion of local handicrafts. He also directed the Central Handicrafts officers to provide full support to J&K Handicrafts.
Hailing massive participation of J&K in the virtual Fair, Shantmanu said the Carpet Export Promotion Council, Ministry of Textiles Regional Office J&K will play a very important role for the promotion of Handmade Carpet Industry of J&K.
Shantmanu was accompanied by several other senior functionaries of the Carpet Export Promotion Council, Ministry of Textiles Regional Office.
He said that the Kashmir Silk Carpet Exporters will gain a new experience in the Virtual Fair and stressed for maximum participation from J&K in the upcoming Virtual Fairs to be conducted by CEPC, Ministry of Textiles Govt of India.
The Development Commissioner said that Kashmir Silk Handmade Carpet Industries has a very important role in the Indian Handmade Carpet Sector & its exports all over the world. Shantmanu praised the efforts made by CEPC Regional Office J&K for facilitating the local Carpet Exporters at CEPC platform to boost their business.
Later in a meeting with senior officers of J&K Handicrafts, Central Handicrafts Field Officers and the Regional Head CEPC, the Development Commissioner asked the three organizations to work jointly to achieve the common goal of promotion of Handmade carpet and other Handicraft products in the national and international market.
Pertinently, J&K exporters who participated in the 40th India Carpet Expo have received a huge response and inquiries from overseas buyers which displays the success of "Mission Virtual Fair" and provides a very good reason to continue the mission Virtual Fair in future as the physical Fair is not possible in near future due to ongoing Pandemic.
J&K is the only Region where Exhibitors are getting the participation Fee reimbursed by J&K Govt. through the Department of Handicrafts in order to boost their morale and encourage them for their business amid Pandemic through Virtual Fair.
Regional office CEPC, in collaboration with the Handicraft Directorate Kashmir are all set to provide the participants a High speed internet Service at a central place in Srinagar to facilitate them, even as the participants had high Speed Internet service already available at their workplaces.
As per its Regional head, Ashiq Hussain, Regional office CEPC Srinagar provided every kind of support and guidance to the participants for virtual fair and assisted them round the clock from June 20,2020 till August 26, 2020 in this regard. The Srinagar Regional Office remained open in the holidays and every Saturday and Sunday to assist the Exhibitors, he added.
Among the exhibitors from across India, Hazara Arts From J&K won the "Online Booth For Good Appearance Award” and was congratulated by Chairman CEPC, Siddh Nath Singh, Vice Chairman CEPC, Umar Hameed and the Executive Director Cum Secretary CEPC Sanjay Kumar.
He also welcomed the constructive role of Electronic and the Print Media of J&K to bring the related information in the public domain during the Virtual Fair.
