MENDHAR, Sept 3: A large number of farmers in Mendhar area in Poonch district are feeling deceived by the Agriculture Department as they alleged that the quality of seeds procured by them from the department is inferior due to which they incurred losses.
A group of farmers from Bhatidar village met the Tehsildar Mendhar and narrated their tale of woes to the officer. They accused the Agriculture Department of cheating them.
One Barkat Hussain Mir, a resident of Bhatidar (Link Road) while telling his painful story to the concerned Tehsildar said that he came to the Agriculture Store at Jaba in Mendhar from where he purchased the maize seeds for Rs 7500, adding that at the time of purchasing the seeds he was told by the Department officials that the seeds are of superior quality.
Mir said the officials of the department had said that the plant of this seed grows less in length and the skin also looks bigger, however, everything turned out to be the opposite when he sowed
Mir said that he and other farmers like him have been deceived by the department.
According to reports, Tehsildar Mendhar Dr Vikram Kumar after hearing the aggrieved farmers summoned the responsible officers of the concerned department to his office and issued orders to respond immediately to the complaints lodged by the farmers.
