Early Times Report

Jammu, Sep 3: Various Sikh organizations including J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu, Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (Regd. Jammu), Shiromani Akali Dal, Sikh Welfare Front, Sikh Intellectuals Circle J&K, International Sikh Federation, Sikh Students Federation, Sikh Nojwan Sabha Jammu & the Sikh youth of J&K, have strongly condemned the exclusion of Punjabi language from J&K official languages bill 2020 and lodged strong protest under the leadership of S.T.S Wazir.
S.T.S. Wazir Chairman J&K Gurdwara Parbandhak Board & Ex-MLC while addressing the protest along with other sikh leaders said that Punjabi speaking population was shown in lacks during survey of 1941 & 1981 and now total neglect of Punjabi language has created many doubts in the minds of minority sikh community in Jammu & Kashmir.
Also till 1981 Punjabi language was compulsory subject like Urdu in J&K and now its total neglect is another assault on the identity of Sikh community in J&K and also against the spirit of Sab Ka Saath Sab Ka Vikas Slogan of the rulers.
S.T.S Wazir said that Punjabi language is one of the vital languages of J&K and was well recognized in the constitution of J&K.
Moreover globally Punjabi stands at No. 5 after English, Chinese, Urdu and Dutch and its belongs to every citizen irrespective of caste, creed & religion.
