RAJOURI, Oct 5: Department of Agriculture in this district is virtually playing cruel jokes with the farmers since it is implementing the centrally sponsored schemes in a half-hearted manner with the same getting proved with respect to scheme relating to supply of tractors on subsidy.
Sources told Early Times that the department has sanctioned just four tractors for the district with the subsidy to be given on two tractors with the other two to be supplied on full rate. They said the farmers of the district are perplexed over the laidback attitude of the people at helm in the agriculture department.
“The Rajouri district consists of five agriculture sub-divisions Rajouri, Darhal, Budhal, Nowshera and Kalakote. There are 17 agriculture zones in the district with the number of circles being 87 with the total Panchayats in the district being 314. Despite all this just four tractors have been sanctioned under the scheme for the entire district,” said sources.
Sources while quoting the farmers said that at least one tractor should be sanctioned for one agriculture zone of the district adding that same would lead to solution of problems for the farming community. They said in the present context the farmers have been forced to eat humble pie given the half-hearted nature of centrally sponsored scheme.
An officer on the condition of anonymity told Early Times that injustice has been meted out to the farmers of Rajouri since subsidy is being given on only two tractors. The officer said that Commissioner Secretary Agriculture and the concerned advisor should intervene in the matter so that justice is delivered.
The farmers have appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and impress upon the concerned department to take corrective measures and that too at the earliest. |
