Early Times Report

REASI, Nov 23: The higher ups in the Public Works Department (PWD) are sitting over a file that had recommended recovery of around 10 lakhs from two engineers who had carried out the construction work of a road in this district without a proper survey and detailed project report (DPR).
Sources told Early Times that a Junior Engineer (JE) and Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the PWD carried out the construction of the two kilometer long road named as Godhar road adjacent to the Kalidhar road in the Pouni tehsil of this district. The road was constructed at the cost of around 25 lakhs.
“Both the engineers also constructed a wall (dhanga) in this respect and the same caved in after few months. The road is 90 degrees and not fit for any traffic as such since the experts say that it is faulty. The public money has been wasted due to the non-serious approach of the two engineers,” said sources.
Sources said that the department formed a committee to enquire the matter and it came out that the JE and AEE constructed the road without following the norms. The report said that the two engineers are responsible and recommended that Rs. 9.85 lakhs should be recovered from both these engineers.
“The report was submitted to the administrative office of PWD at the Civil Secretariat for proper sanctioning. However, till date no such thing has happened and the engineers continue to work without any fail. The senior engineers of the department have urged the LG and concerned advisor to take note of the issue and direct for issuance of the order,” said sources.
An officer of the department on the condition of anonymity told Early Times that action should be taken against the two engineers so that in future such things are put to rest. The officer said that the administration should take note and take corrective measures.
