KPs accuse Govt of adopting delaying tactics on Temples Bill
1/5/2021 11:15:19 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Jan 5: There has been no headway in passage of Shrines and Temples Bill for management of Hindu shrines and other religious places in Kashmir despite the demand gaining momentum day by day with almost all KP organisations extending support to Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust in this regard. According to sources the UT Government under constant pressure from various organisations having vested interests are constantly exerting pressure on Government which has put the issue in cold storage and except the verbal assurances the UT Government failed to take concrete steps in this regard till date.
Though Kashmiri Pandits irrespective of their political affiliations are unanimous on passage of the Bill terming it will be a major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) for honourable and dignified rehabilitation of displaced Hindus in the Valley but According to well placed sources,Government seems to be under such a heavy influence of some vested elements that despite its willingness it is unable to even an inch forward on the issue which is now lying in cold storage for years together.
Sources said the Government’s delaying tactics has generated a lot of resentment among the displaced Pandits scattered all over the globe who are if the opinion that if left unattended and un managed the religious heritage of Pandits representing the thousands years of rich cultural history of community will vanish.
Sources said Kashmiri Pandits while terming these religious shrines and temples as great monuments representing a rich civilization need to be protected for the posterity and the community feels totally dejected with delaying tactics of the Government.
Sources said the community leadership is now accusing the Government playing double standards in this regard as on the one hand it wants to please the vested elements sabotaging the passage of the Bill and on the other hand it wants to keep the protagonists of the movement for passage of the Bill also in good humor.
Sources said some KP organisations which are fully backing the Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust in its struggle have urged it to intensify the struggle in this regard.
They have also appealed the Lt Governor to take effective steps in settling the long standing issue and ensure the protection of age old Hindu religious places and temples in Kashmir.
