Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 1: The selection for the post of Registrar and Controller of Examinations for the University of Kashmir has raised many eyebrows with accusations of partiality and nepotism being leveled against the vice-chancellor of the varsity. As per the documents in possession of the Early Times, the post of Registrar and Controller of Examinations for the University of Kashmir was advertised in the month of August, 2018 and the interviews for the said post were held on 24-12-2018 at Jammu. The applicants to the post have reported that the interview was merely a formality and the selection of one blue eyed person was pre-decided. Sources said that the whole process of the interview of all the seven candidates was completed in a matter of one hour with average of 5-7 minutes given to each candidate with no formal questioning during the so called interview process. Furthermore, it is being alleged that the interview committee was so lackadaisical that one of the experts roughly for half of the time left the interview process. One of the experts did not interact at all with some of the candidates. “There seemed to be no interest of the interviewers to assess each candidate thoroughly and it seemed a mere formality to complete the process rather this all was done as the selection was predetermined to select a blue eyed person who had been asked to apply for the post,” said the sources.
They said that one blue eyed person had been reportedly given the preference over the persons of the rank of senior professors or former Registrars and controller of examination. “Four professors, two joint Registrars were the other applicants and most of them were having administrative, academic and research experience at their back. Most of the candidates have unblemished record of integrity and performance. Their contribution is visible and being acknowledged by all and sundry which can be verified from any source from the university. You are requested to seek the curriculum vitae of all the applicants and mere comparison will lead your honourable self to reality,” sources said.
Meanwhile, the government is being urged to compare and contrast the detailed curriculum vitae of the reportedly selected candidate with all other candidates and that more appropriate would be to cancel this fraudulent selection and convene the selection process a fresh by the team of experts of great stature and credibility. “The government here claims to make the functioning of the premier educational institutions transparent. The entire process here is doubtful and we only demand that a through probe must be launched so that truth is unearthed and this premier knowledge centre is saved from corrupt practices,” said an aggrieved candidate.
