Early Times Report

Kishtwar, June 12: People arriving at Kishtwar from various areas of the district and from outside slammed the poor condition of Bus Stand Kishtwar as well as closure of only toilet complex at Bus Stand Kishtwar falling exclusively under the control of Municipal Council Kishtwar.
As per the details available with Early Times, Kishtwar bus stand is full of potholes as a result of which the drivers of commercial vehicles operating from the bus stand Kishtwar face lot of inconvenience besides are being robbed in the name of Adda collection tax without providing them any facilities.
The only toilet complex at bus stand Kishtwar was also locked as result of which the drivers as well as the passengers arriving at Bus Stand Kishtwar- particularly the women and children were facing lot of embarrassment due to non-functional of toilet complex.
“The people and the drivers mostly piped in open but women can’t— it is shameful and embarrassing not only for MC Kishtwar officials — but for whole Kishtwar since for our women and children’s — there is even not a single toilet in whole area” said the local shopkeepers.
The shopkeepers said that despite repeated request to the concern officials as well as elected representatives of Kishtwar MC, nothing has been done to address the problems faced by the people due to non maintenance of Bus Stand Kishtwar.
It is pertinent to mention that last week the Councilors of MC Kishtwar also met Divisional Commissioner Jammu and apprised him about the problems faced by the people due to non maintenance of Bus Stand Kishtwar besides also demanded to finalize the proposal for expansion of Bus Stand Kishtwar pending since last several years.
Several organizations including NGOs also slammed the housing and urban development department for their failure to provide basic facilities like toilet complex at Bus Stands as well as in other areas of Kishtwar MC as a result of which the people coming from outside are facing lot of inconvenience.
The people also called for posting of Additional Secretary level officer as Executive Officer since Kishtwar Municipal Committee has been upgraded to Council about two years ago.
