Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 18: A deputation of Sikh community led by S. Charanjit Singh Khalsa, former MLC BJP, met H.E. Lt Governor Sh Manoj Sinha ji regarding problems of Sikhs living in UTJK today.
At the very outset C.S.Khalsa extended heartiest gratitude of Sikh community for Establishment of Guru Nanak Dev Jee Chair in the University of Jammu as a tribute to the founder of Sikh Religion on his auspicious 550th Prakash Purab Anniversary.
The deputation emphasised holding of Gurudwara Election which are already overdelayed ignoring all provisions of the Sikh Gurudwara Endoment Act 1973, and clear directions from Hon'ble High Court .
It was also emphsised that heritage sites of Sikhs in JK viz. Baba Banda Singh Bahadar at Reasi, Rajouri, Nowshera , Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort at Darhall, and Gurudwara Seer Manjla Udhampur and installation of statue of Baba ji at Kunjwani Chowk be taken up for preservation and improvement as Religious Heritage Tourism sites. Issue of allottment of land for Guru Nanak Bhawan was also brought to his kind notice.
It was submitted that almost 90% populace of Sikhs of UTJK are DPs of 1947, as such the measures as recommended for Relief & Rehabilitation by Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs GOI since 2014 be sanctioned and implemented . Major issues are as :
An interim relief of Rs. 30/- lakhs per family, RESERVATION for wards of DPs in technical institutions for higher studies, SPECIAL JOB PACKAGE or reservation of jobs for educated young wards of DPs, INCLUSION of left out 5300 DPs families living in other states, Fresh REGISTRATION and issue of ID CARDS to all descendants of DPs families, grant of PROPRIETORY RIGHTS of the RESIDENTIAL PLOTS in the REFUGEE CAMPS/ BASTIS/ HABITATATIONS of DPs all along the IB and LOC , to DEFREEZE PROPORTIONATE 8-10 seats out of 24 ASSEMBLY SEATS reserved for POJK areas for DPs of 1947 displaced from POJK and to create DEVELOPMENT BOARD for DPs OF 1947 .
Another hot issue which has recently cropped up is proposal to revive a HERITAGE RAILWAY LINE since abandoned from Bikram Chowk to Suchetgarh Border Post , this will cause second displacement of thousand of DPs of 1947 settled on the abandoned track since 1950. H.E. was requested to clear the doubts and safegaurd the basties of DPs to avoid second displacement. Lastly it was requested to provide equitable treatment for development and protection of the miniscule minority Sikhs living in far flung areas of the valley.
H. E. was kind enough to give a patient hearing and assured for appropriate action .
S. Suchwant Singh, S. Attar Singh Kukreja, S. Mohan Singh Baghi, and Jagjeet Singh Sudan were part of the deputation.
