SOTTO (J&K) organizes awareness session cum rally on organ donation at GDC Jindrah

JAMMU, Sept 28: An awareness session cum rally on organ donation was organized by State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K in collaboration with the NSS unit of Government Degree College Jindrah here. During the programme the students were made aware of the National Organ Transplant Program (NOTP) which is being run by SOTTO J&K in the Super Specialty Hospital Jammu.
They were made aware of organ donation, brain stem death and the whole donation procedure. They were informed about the legal procedure involved in organ donation.
Many participants showed interest and become an organ donor. Stories of many organ donors were also shared to motivate them.
Dr. Shafeen Koul, Medical officer, Jindrah was the resource person in the programme. She said that someone who is brain dead due to some brain injury, brain hemorrhage or some other reason, organs and issues of his body still remain alive and can save up to many lives after donation. She inspired everyone to donate their organs after death.
Dr. Sunil Sharma, Professor and in-charge of NSS unit of GDC Jindrah made students aware of deaths caused due to shortage of organs and need of organ donation.
The programme was followed by the painting activity and a rally, in which students raised slogans to make the locals aware of the need for organ donation. They also showed their creativity through art. Anshu Sharma, Consultant Media/IEC, SOTTO J&K, Dr. Irfan lone, Transplant Coordinator and Nisha Choudhary was also present during the programme.
