Tawi Trekkers Jammu to organize mountaineering expedition to Mount Kamet
11/15/2021 11:28:23 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 15: To commemorate its 40 years of promoting adventure activities Tawi Trekkers J&K, Jammu, the pioneer adventure sports club of J&K would organize an ambitious mountaineering expedition to Mount Kamet, the third highest peak in India, next year. Standing at an inspiring elevation of 25445ft (7756m) Mount Kamet is a challenging peak because of its bone chilling temperatures and bellowing winds across the exposed rocky terrain at such high altitude. Resembling a giant pyramid topped by a flat summit area with two peaks, Kamet is called Kang Med by Tibetans which means “burning mountain” because the sun rays falling on it look extremely beautiful. First climbed in 1931 by legendry mountaineers Eric Shipton, Frank Smythe and R L Holdsworth it has been climbed by a number of Indian mountaineers.
To be led by one of the 11 Everesters of Jammu Tawi Trekkers J&K’s team comprising about 7-8 climbers may include another Everester and at least two girls.
