Senior officer shifted to Ladakh UT still occupies palatial bungalow in Jammu
J&K officers wait for their turn to get official accommodations

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 15: While officers of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are waiting for their turn to official accommodation, some officers who have been shifted to the Union Territory of Ladakh are still occupying palatial bungalows in J&K.
A senior officer who was shifted to Ladakh in March this year is still occupying a palatial bungalow in posh Gandhi Nagar locality of Jammu city.
In the interest of administration, the 1994 batch IAS officer was transferred from Jammu and Kashmir and his services were placed at the disposal of the Union territory of Ladakh for further posting.
Sources in the administration said that any officer who is shifted from one UT to another is not entitled to government accommodation at two places simultaneously.
On the one hand, he has been provided accommodation at Ladakh, on the other hand, he is still occupying the palatial bungalow which was allotted to him when he was serving in J&K.
After both houses of the Parliament passed Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two UTs of Ladakh and J&K. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the appointed day for the two UTs was October 31, 2019 and these will come into existence in midnight (Wednesday-Thursday), nearly three months after the announcement in Rajya Sabha.
This is for the first time that a state is converted into two UTs even though there are numerous examples of a UT becoming a full state or a state bifurcating into two states.
Meanwhile, 221 gazetted, 1535 non-gazetted posts were transferred to UT Ladakh from J&K.
As per the official order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) of J&K, these posts have been transferred to Ladakh from the Union Territory of J&K.
