JAMMU, Nov 15: A seven-day Jyotish training workshop was inaugurated today at Central Sanskrit University. Sham Lal Sharma, Vice President, BJP J&K and former minister was the chief guest on the occasion, while K K Sharma, Director, Agriculture, Jammu, was the distinguished guest.
Mahant Rohit Shastri, President, Kailakh Jyotish Evam Vaidik Sansthan Trust was the special guest. The inaugural function was presided over by Prof. Madan Mohan Jha, Director, Central Sanskrit University. The workshop is being organized jointly by Central Sanskrit University and Kailakh Jyotish evam Vaidik Sansthan Trust, Jammu in online / offline mode.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharma highlighted the significance of Jyotish for the common man, and said that knowledge of Jyotish is required at every step of human life. He expressed the confidence that the students as well as various sections of the society shall benefit immensely from the workshop. He said that the Panchang is also very useful for the common man. Through the Panchang the message of religious awareness shall reach every household, which is highly appreciable.
He said that the people would find the Panchang very useful because it contains important information also, in addition to the information about vratas and festivals. With the help of the Panchang, one can easily predict auspicious time as well as know the past and the future. The Panchang has a great significance in the Indian civilization.
Prof. Jha said that as a Sanskrit University it is our first responsibility to spread awareness about the various fields of Sanskrit learning and motivate the society to take an active interest in promotion and propagation of Sanskrit language and literature. Mahant Shastri said that Jyotish developed in the ancient times as an attempt to calculate time. At that time, people used to expect rains as per the astrological predictions.
