After Drabu, CBI to question more Kashmir netas
5/26/2022 12:02:58 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 25: Even as former JK Bank Chairman and politician, Dr Haseeb Drabu was recently questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation, the CBI is likely to question more politicians from Kashmir into the case, the Early Times learnt from reliable sources.
The CBI questioned former JK finance minister Haseeb Drabu on May 20 for alleged corruption in the purchase of a building for JK Bank's integrated office in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla complex when he was the chairman of the bank.
Sources said CBI sleuths are not ruling a “political nexus being involved in the deal and that questioning of the politicians who were at the helm that time cannot be ruled out.”
“See, some powerful politicians have played a role in the deal cannot be ruled out and thus the names of those who are under scanner will have to be questioned because this is now investigations take place,” said a source privy to the developments that had led to the filing of the case.
The central agency has claimed that the JK Bank bought a building in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) from Akruti Gold Builders at a much higher rate than was offered by other shortlisted builders, incurring a loss of over Rs 100 crore. In doing so, the bank officials indulged in “criminal conspiracy” with the owners of Akruti Gold, the CBI has alleged.
The CBI had recently raided as many as eight locations in Jammu, Srinagar and Mumbai sometime ago, including Dr Drabu’s residence in the summer capital.
The raids were conducted in connection with a case lodged by the agency on 11 November last year over allegations of irregularities in J&K Bank’s purchase of the Akruti Gold building in 2010.
After his JK Bank assignment, Dr Drabu had joined the Peoples Democratic Party to become the Finance Minister before being sacked. He had subsequently left PDP.
He was recently questioned by the CBI sleuths in Srinagar.
