VC, SKUAST-J visits Centre of Excellence for fruits

JAMMU, Jan 27: Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu visited Centre of Excellence for fruits, Udheywalla and took stock of progress of work undertaken at the centre.
Dr. Ganai visited all components of the centre and expressed hope that the centre shall be very useful for the growers of the region. He said that the centre shall become a centre of attraction for visiting farmers and officials once it is inaugurated and dedicated to the farmers of the region.
Dr. Vikas Tandon, Head ACHR & PI of the project gave a detailed account of objectives and also presented the progress of the project. He told that from this season planting material shall be supplied to the growers. Dr. Ganai visited the orchards and suggested some improvements that can add revenue to the centre and also at the same time fully utilize the land. He visited the hi-tech nursery and said that proper market for the material produce has to be searched. He advised to popularize the facility among different states so that the material produced here can be lifted. He also visited bio-control Laboratory, Dr. Vishal Gupta and Dr. Pradeep Rai informed that they are producing and supplying bio-control agents like Trichoderma, Pseudomonas and bio-fertilizers such as rhizobium and PSB to farmers of the Jammu region through development departments. He also visited the Tissue culture laboratory; Dr. Sheetal Dogra presented their activities in the lab.
Dr. S.K. Gupta, Registrar & Dean, Faculty of Horticulture and Forestry SKUAST-J, Dr. Rakesh Nanda, Director Education, Madan lal, Comptroller, S Iqbal Singh Executive Engineer, K. K. Raina, AEE, Dr. Shahid, ADR , Dr. Mahital Jamwal, ADR, and Sonu Kumar from Jain irrigations systems limited were present. The meeting ended with formal vote of thanks.
