Initial probe reveals involvement of some ponywallas, street vendors
Pahalgam Terror Attack
5/4/2025 10:18:11 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 4: As investigations continue into the recent terror attack in the tourist hotspot of Pahalgam, initial findings have revealed the possible involvement of over two dozen Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sleeper cell operatives in orchestrating the deadly assault.
According to reliable sources, preliminary investigations suggest that local support networks played a significant role in aiding the terrorists. Among those allegedly involved are some Ponywallas and street vendors operating in the area, who are suspected to have acted as sleeper cell agents and provided logistical support to the attackers.
Sources further disclosed that four armed terrorists carried out a targeted assault on tourists, opening selective fire with the intent to cause maximum panic and disruption. The attackers are believed to have received prior ground-level assistance from conspirators stationed nearby.
“Some local handlers, including Ponywallas and vendors, maintained a watch from a distance to ensure the plan was executed smoothly,” sources familiar with the probe said. "Their role was to monitor the surroundings, pass on intelligence, and ensure no interference occurred during the attack."
Security agencies have launched a massive manhunt to identify and apprehend all individuals linked to the plot, including those who may have aided the terrorists either knowingly or under duress. Surveillance footage, call records, and human intelligence are being closely examined to trace the entire support network behind the heinous act.
Officials have also not ruled out the possibility of further attempts to target high-footfall tourist areas in Kashmir and have increased security deployments in and around major destinations like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg.
The attack, which has drawn widespread condemnation, is seen as a deliberate attempt to derail the growing tourist activity in the region, which had recently seen record footfall after years of relative calm.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their surroundings, reiterating that such acts of terror will not be allowed to disrupt peace and normalcy in the Valley.
