Jammu, July 20: Kupwara MLA and senior PDP leader Mir Mohammad Fayaz has stirred a fresh political controversy by writing a letter to the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, accusing Chief Minister’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani of overstepping his official role and interfering in the functioning of the administration. However, political observers and critics have pointed out the irony in the move, reminding Fayaz of similar practices adopted during the PDP’s own tenure in power. While Mir Fayaz has taken exception to the alleged conduct of the present advisor, he appears to have conveniently overlooked the role of Peerzada Mansoor Hussain — the then advisor to two PDP Chief Ministers, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and later Mehbooba Mufti. During both tenures, Peerzada Mansoor was widely perceived as a powerful figure operating beyond the confines of a typical advisory role. Sources recall that Peerzada Mansoor’s influence extended deep into the administrative setup of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. His involvement was especially resented in constituencies held by opposition parties — particularly the National Conference (NC) — where developmental activities were allegedly hindered or delayed at his behest. Political analysts note that the accusations now levelled against Nasir Aslam Wani by a PDP leader mirror the very practices that the PDP leadership once defended. The letter by Mir Fayaz, while calling for administrative neutrality, has ironically reignited discussions on the unchecked roles of political advisors in Jammu and Kashmir’s governance, cutting across party lines. It has also exposed the double standards that often characterize political discourse in the region. An observer said, “Nasir Aslam Wani is just seeking feedback from the ground and he is not overstepping his brief. He is a seasoned politician and knows his role well. Him (Wani) remaining connected to the ground seems to have annoyed the PDP.” |
