Gagangir (J&K), Oct 23: An uneasy calm prevails over Gagangir, a picturesque hamlet surrounded by mountains and dense forests along the Srinagar-Leh National highway where a deadly attack claimed the lives of seven employees of an infrastructure company, including a local doctor.
The attack at the campsite of the workers engaged in the almost-completed 6.5-km Z-Morh tunnel in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is the first such incident at the site of a major infrastructure project in the past three decades of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The government has exempted parboiled rice and husked (brown) rice from export duty.
Export duty has been reduced from 10 per cent to ‘nil’ on parboiled rice, husked (brown) rice and rice in the husk (paddy or rough), said a late night notification issued by the finance ministry on Tuesday.

SRINAGAR, Oct 23: At least four residential houses, three cowsheds and as many shops were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district overnight, officials said.
Fire and Emergency officials said that fire broke out at midnight in a house at Batpora Hyhama and engulfed other nearby houses causing extensive damage to four residential houses. Three cowsheds and as many shops were also destroyed in the blaze.
