Jammu, Oct 30: Over two months after the devastating cloudburst and flash floods that wreaked havoc in the remote Chashoti village of Machail tehsil in Kishtwar district, the authorities have officially presumed all 31 missing persons dead and initiated the legal process to formalize the declaration.
According to a public notice issued by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Paddar, Dr. Amit Kumar, the decision follows exhaustive search and rescue operations conducted by local authorities and police teams, which failed to trace any of the missing individuals since the tragedy struck on September 14, 2025.

The Bill was moved in the House by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Javid Ahmad Dar.
“A Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989 (Act No. IX of 1989) (L.A. Bill No. 5 of 2025),” reads the Bill passed in the House.

Srinagar, Oct 30: Jammu and Kashmir has registered more than 2,800 cases of domestic violence in the last two years, with a 121 per cent spike in reported incidents in the last financial year, the legislative assembly was informed on Thursday.
Responding to a question by National Conference (NC) MLA from Habbakadal, Shamim Firdous, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo said 2,872 domestic violence cases were registered during the last two years at One Stop Centres for Women and on the Mission Shakti dashboard in Jammu and Kashmir.
Out of these, 893 cases were registered in 2023-24, while 1,979 were lodged in 2024-25, the minister said.
