JAMMU, Mar 31: Even as the tenure of Medical Teachers Association (MTA), Government Medical College and its associated hospitals ended more than a year ago, the concerned authority has failed to conduct elections. Pertinently, a delegation of the doctors met authorities requesting them to nominate Returning Officer (RO) and even dates were out to fill the nomination form. But nothing has been done so far. The MTA completed its two-year tenure in January 2017. Since then the doctors were trying to conduct fresh elections. The authorities were requested to nominate RO to start the process of elections. Afterward, some doctors had come forward and Dr KK Gupta was appointed as RO. "Later, Dr Gupta was replaced with Dr Zahid Gillani as the new RO. But since then no effort has been made to hold elections for 2017-19," sources stated. "The inordinate delay in holding elections is because of personal interest among the members of the previous association," a group of doctors said. They said that due to non-serious approach of the previous association, the faculty members are facing numbers of problems but neither association is serious about the problems of the faculty members nor the hospital management. They added that a new body should be elected so that it will highlight the issues before concerned authorities. |
