Jammu, Oct 1: The Youth Congress National Executive meet commencing tomorrow at SKICC in Srinagar apart from the main political agenda is going to witness some apolitical developments, thanks to the 'novel concept' that has dawned upon IYC authorities to make it look an event with a difference. For about 80 VIPs attending this prestigious meet amidst the picturesque Dal Lake and beautiful Srinagar city, IYC wants them to make at least one day stay with private residences of the functionaries and cadres of Congress at the local level, all to make them aware about rich Kashmiri culture and hospitality for which the people are Kashmir are famous. The idea has however drawn flak as most of the local leaders and functionaries have declined to follow these 'instructions' for security reasons.
In what can be seen as the idea, first of its kind, IYC leadership which is taking care of all the arrangements in coordination with PYC leadership, the purpose behind the move appears to be primarily to make VIPs in the guest list have a feel of the Kashmiri culture and hospitality close in the residential surroundings, which one doesn't get to see normally in the hotels . Sources in PYC said there are around 80 such VIPs who include state presidents , senior functionaries of IYC and even some MPs who would attend the four day meet. Most of the VIPs have already arrived in Srinagar and their stay arrangements are already in place, sources said.
However, for this idea of making the guests aware of Kashmir culture , the functionaries and even cadre based youth actively involved with PYC have been asked to entertain at least two VIPs at their homes for one night . It is one night stay programme with private residences of local leaders for which the latter have been asked to make arrangements, sources said. However, most of the leaders and functionaries at the local level have resisted and are unwilling to accept, citing security reasons as the main cause for their reluctance. With killings of Panches and Sarpanches a recent phenomenon in terms of security situation Kashmir, as also the pro active role of Youth Congress for the cause of empowerment of Panchayats, sources said the functionaries are hesitant in accommodating the guests , no matter for just night and that too for 'good cause', at their residences. Sources also said that some functionaries based in Srinagar or nearby places have shown reluctance in doing so because the guests are quite unknown to them as also to their family members.
