Commerce College upsets title holders GDC Poonch
Quarterfinals position cleared in inter-college Kabaddi

JAMMU, Oct 2: Defending champion, Government Degree College (GDC) Poonch today suffered defeat in the hands of last year's semifinalist, Government SPMR College of Commerce in the second round of pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing inter-college kabaddi championship, hosted by New Age Degree College at Phinter in Billawar tehsil of district Kathua.\
In the meantime, with the completion of second round, the quarterfinals line-up has been drawn in this competition. Now, in the quarterfinals, to be played tomorrow, Commerce College shall take on GDC Doda while Government MAM College shall face GDC Billawar. Similarly, GDC Rajouri shall play against GDC Kathua and New Age College shall meet GDC Mendhar.
Earlier, in the pre-quarterfinals matches, played today, GDC Mehander outplayed the PG Departments of JU by a margin of nine points with score on board being 47-28. In another match, New Age Degree College Phinter registered a big 18 (46-14) points win over GGM Science College.
The GDC Rajouri also won their tie against GDC Akhnoor making by a margin of 20 points with scorecard reads 41-21. Junaid, Ikhlaq and Shakeel were outstanding in Rajouri triumph.
In the fourth pre-quarterfinal, GDC Billawar defeated GDC Thanamandi 26-17. Similarly, GDC Doda made it a one-sided affair against GDC RS Pura beating latter by 25 points. The trio of Seva Ram, Raj Singh and Amjad were the architect of Doda's impressive win.
Government SPMR College of Commerce also won their tie played against GDC Poonch 17-06. Government MAM College and GDC Kathua got walkovers. GDC Kathua got walkover GDC Samba.
Pre-quarterfinals were officiated by the penal of technical persons including Gulzar Ahmed, Pankaj Spolia, Sartaj Singh, Mandeep Singh, Punjab Singh, Ankush Gupta, Abhishek Bhadyal and Kulbushan.
In today's matches, Station House Officer, Billawar, BS Manhas was special guest, who interacted with the teams playing in the second round of the competition. He was accompanied by Director of the host New Age College, Prof AK Malhotra.
