| Manhas trying to outwit his opponents in race for party president's post | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 2: In his pursuit to get a second term as Party President and outwit the other contenders in the race BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas tried to mobilize party and public opinion towards himself by resorting to 48 hour Satyagrah at Dogra Chowk here on Gandhi Jayanti. Though Manhas has announced that he will lodge protest against the incrementing corruption in the State especially the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam involving its President and other office bearers, sources said that Manhas has chosen to target NC President who happens to be JKCA chief to humiliate his other party leaders who are much closer to ruling NC. This way Manhas wanted to convey the party High Command that he has the guts to take the party cause ahead in the State without coming into influence of ruling NC while other contender for the post can't do the same, sources added. Manhas soon after returning from Surajkund after attending the Party's National Executive meet followed by National council meet decided to launch the Satyagrah to protest against the rising corruption in the State. Sources said Manhas who enjoys patronage of National General Secretary of party organization Ram Lal is hopeful that he may support his re-election of BJP State president. The main contender of Manhas, party MLA from Nagrota Jugal Kishore Sharma who also enjoys patronage of RSS and other party leaders has kept his cards open as he has given assurance by some RSS leaders that he will be the new State President of the Party, sources added. Sources said Jugal was perturbed after Manhas announced his decision to launch 48 hour Satyagraha. Sources said to counter Manhas, Jugal had told some of his party colleagues that he will resort to Dharna in front of State Assembly at Srinagar. However, one more contender to the post Chander Prakash Ganga has entered into an understanding with Manhas that he will withdraw in his (Manhas's) favour provided he recommends his name as party nominee for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat the election to which will be held in 2014, sources added. Sources said a sizeable number of Partymen strongly favour that next president should be an intellectual who can refurbish the Party image. |
