Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 2: NPP MLA, Harsh Dev Singh and leader of the Panthers legislature party today lambasted the state govt. for deprivation of Jammu region students and their neglect under Prime Minister's Special scholarship programme. He said that whereas the state govt. deputed 500 valley based students for undergoing free professional courses in various Metropolitan cities of the country, the students of Jammu Pradesh were completely ignored in the process. He said that the said 500 students were flagged off after a special function was organized for the purpose on Sunday 30th Sept. at Amar Singh College, Srinagar. Strongly flaying the neglect of Jammu based students under the Scheme, Harsh Dev Singh said that earlier also 299 valley based students with 10+2 qualification were deputed to various metropolitan cities for undergoing free professional courses. He said all expenses of the students including coaching fee is to be borne by GOI under PM's Scholarship scheme. Questioning modus operandi followed in identification of students, he further called upon the govt. to explain as to whether PM's special scholarship scheme was confined only for valley students and whether it had unilaterally excluded from the purview of the scheme the deserving and eligible students of Jammu region. Singh also claimed that under PM's 'Himayat' scheme Jammu region had been ignored in the matter of provision of Employment facilities. He regretted the Union Minister of Rural Development Jai Ram Romesh who is overseeing the implementation of 'Himayat' Project visited Kashmir twice and handed over appointment orders to around 4000 valley youth to the utter neglect of Jammu region youth. Cautioning the Jammu based Ministers to assert and to reclaim the share of Jammu region, he said they should refrain from playing a second fiddle to Kashmir leadership and from testing the patience of Jammu Unemployed youth and students. Seeking a fair deal for Jammu region, he demanded equitable share to all regions of the state under various employment and other student welfare schemes. He cautioned the govt. to equitably allocate the one lac odd vacancies available in the state amongst the various regions including engagement of 43,000 casual workers who are in the process of engagement in various staff deficient deptts. of the state.
