| Security forces asked to foil militants plans | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 2: Attempts are being made at giving teeth to militancy related violence in Jammu and Kashmir and in this connection the security forces have been directed to intensify patrolling in the most sensitive areas in the state. According to police sources, militants, including those who have sneaked into Jammu and Kashmir from across the LOC in recent weeks, have started carving ot hideouts in areas that had been sanitised against the rebels by the security forces. These sources, in support of their contention that militants were in the look out for new hideouts, referred to the recent incident in Ganderbal where five militants were killed in an operation launched by the security forces and the four militants who escaped the police cordon af ter opening fire on a patrol party in a village in Shopian in south Kashmir. Sources said that intelligence agencies have received reports indicating that militants were engaged in regrouping remodelling their plan on raising the leevel of violence in Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri,Poonch and some pockets of Udhampur district.The same plan was being implemented in Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Baramulla in north and Kulgam, Anantnag, Shopian, Tral in south Kashmir. A senior police officer said that the Government had okayed a two-pronged strategy to counter the rebel plans.Under the scheme he security grid on the LOC and the IB in the state was being upgraded by deploying additional troops and by installing latest gadgets which could help troops in monitoring the movement of infiltrators. Another scheme was to increase the number of companies of Army, paramilitary forces and the police for carrying out patrolling in sensitive areas. The security forces have been directed to initiate speedy measures for carrying out operations against militants and their hideouts only on the receipt of specific information so that civilians were not put to any inconvenience. Security forces and intelligence sleuths have been told to coordinate their efforts for identifying hideouts so that raids on such hideouts could help the security forces in seizing weapons, ammunition and explosives as had been in done in recent raids that led to the recovery of huge of quantities of arms and ammunition, including the Chinese make pistols and grenades. |
