Bajan Sandhaya held to mark Navratra celebrations at Jia Pota Ghat

AKHNOOR, Oct 17 : An impressive 'Bajan Sandhaya' was today organized at the right bank of river Chenab, here at Jia Pota Ghat to mark the celebrations of Navratra festival.
The function was organized by the Sandhaya Daily Aarti Committee and Malhotra family, S D Production in collaboration with Directorate of Tourism Jammu.
The Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Jia-Pota Ghat at Akhnoor has great historical importance as Maharaja Ranjeet Singh of Punjab solemnized coronation of Raja Ghulab Singh as Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir at this place.
Renowned artists, including those from Department of Information Culture Wing, local artists as well as artists of Dogri film "Reet" performed at the Bhajan Sandhiya.
After the function, the Minister interacted with a cross section of people including representatives of various social and religious organizations.
Earlier, the Minister also attended the 'Sandhaya Aarti' Jio Pota Ghat organized by the Sandhaya Daily Aarti Committee every 'Sankranti'.
Highlighting the heritage and culture of the state , Sham said that the J&K resonates with imageries of its rich past and is the cultural hub of the sub-continent because of its rich heritage, literature, architecture and folk art forms and this legacy needs to be protected and preserved.
Sham congratulated the organisers for their yeomen service to the cause of the folk art forms and heritage of the Jammu region and urged them to continue the good work being done by them.
Referring to the development works taken up at the Jio Pota, he said the comprehensive plan formulated for the development of right bank of river Chenab was in full swing. He informed that the place was being developed on the pattern of Harki Pori Haridwar because the people organize their social and religious functions at this place. He said that Akhnoor fort was also being developed as heritage site and a Dogra library will be established there to preserve the valuable manuscripts and old books for the coming generations of the state.
On the occasion, the Minister also released audio and video CDs of Chandi Mahyia Da Machil Thakhana produced and Directed by SD Production and Malhotra Family.
SDM Akhnoor, All Sectoral Officers, Tehsildar, BMO, representatives of social organizations, Panches and Sarpanches, artists and senior citizens were also present on the occasion.
