| Cold conditions intensifies in Kashmir | | | Early TImes report
Srinagar, Jan 11: Cold conditions intensified during night as the minimum dropped again in the Kashmir valley where maximum temperature was above normal. People in the Ladakh region continued to shiver with further drop in the minimum temperature. A Met department spokesperson said rain or snow would occur at a few places in the Kashmir valley and isolated places over the rest of the Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours. There would be increase in precipitation during subsequent two days, he said. After chilly night because of minus four degree minimum temperature, two degree below normal, people woke up to a sunny morning though icy cold winds continued in the summer capital, Srinagar. Met spokesperson said the maximum yesterday was 9.8 degree, four degree above normal. There is possibility of light rain or snow during nights tomorrow, he said adding the maximum will drop while the minimum will improve. Famous ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded minus nine degree minimum temperature while at Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir, it was minus 8.5 degree. Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara also registered below normal minimum temperature. There was further drop in the night temperature in the Ladakh region, where border town of Kargil recorded minus 18.6 degree and Leh minus 17 degree. |
