| Chief cleric demands white paper on Kishtwar filtration plant | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Jan 11: Chief cleric of Jamia Masjid Kishtwar Farooq Ahmed Kichloo during his Friday sermon dema-nded white paper from officials of Public Health Engineering Dep-artment Kishtwar on funds utilized by the department over water filtration plant. Kichloo said that dirty and unpotable water is being supplied to the people of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas. He said that the only filtration plant in Kishtwar District is non functional since 1999 and alleged that the officials of PHE department withdrew funds on frivolous grounds for this plant that has lied defunct for a decade now. He warned the PHE officials over their failure in maintaining Goudr-ashnag, which is the prime source of water supply to over one lakh inhabitants of Kishtwar town. Kichloo issued the ultimatum of one week to administration and urged them to erect boundary wall around the said water sources so as to preserve the water sources of the region . He threatened that in case the administration and PHE department showed callous attitude in protecting the said water source, the people will be left with no option except to come on street. |
