UDHAMPUR, Mar 24: Reiterating resolve to provide quality education, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said universalizing education in the state is priority of the government and necessary steps have been taken to further the cause of education in government as well as private education institutions. He said private institutions working in the field are positively contributing to promote value based quality education in the state. "Private institutions are doing a fine job but I appeal them to come forward in sharing social responsibility by adopting talented students from poor and underprivileged families so as to give such students a chance to nurture their talent," he exhorted. Tara Chand was addressing a gathering at the annual day function of DPS Udhampur, here today. He was chief guest on the occasion. Describing schools as temples of learning, the Deputy Chief Minister said teaching is noblest of the professions schools and light of knowledge in society is spread through the schools, adding that a good school in area brightens the whole neighborhood. "A student after learning from his teacher goes on to become prime minister, able jurist, IAS, doctor, engineer or scientist but the teacher remains a teacher and keeps on spreading light of knowledge in society," he added. Sharing experiences of Housing and Urban development department, the Deputy Chief Minister said during his tenure as minister in charge of the department landmark initiatives were taken to promote transparency and professionalism. He said long overdue reforms in the sector were initiated and the state become pioneer in the country to launch urban sector reforms. "In education field also we endeavor to take landmark steps by putting in place a pragmatic education policy as well as a transparent transfer policy so as to promote transparency and professionalism in the sector," he added. He said model government schools having facilities at par with those available in private institutes would be opened in Kashmir as well as Jammu region so as to further give fillip to modern quality education. While speaking on the occasion, local MLA Balwant Mankotia appreciated the school management for its professional approach towards education and for efforts to deliver quality education to the students of the area. Earlier, the students presented sports and cultural activities which were highly appreciated by the audience. Prizes were distributed among those who had excelled in different activities.
