| 11th J&K Fencing Championship concludes, Taj presides | | | Early Times Report
KATRA (REASI), Mar 24: The 11th J&K Fencing Championship concluded today. Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports Taj Mohi-ud-Din was the chief guest on the occasion. In the Championship more than two hundred, fencers from districts of Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda and Poonch competed for more than 100 medals in the events of Sabre, Epee and Foil. Players of national and International repute participated in the championship. In his presidential address Taj Mohi-ud-Din complimented the winners and appreciated the organizers for conducting the events. He assured all support from the Government to promote and popularize games like fencing among the youth. The Minister said the government is sensitive to the need of Sports promotion in the state for which he said long term plans are being drawn. He said while adequate number of coaches would be made available to train youth in various sports on one hand, development of infrastructure is being given a renewed thrust on the other hand. Terming sports vital for personality development, the Minister asked youth to take benefits of whatever facilities and infrastructure is available to them in sports. He said government is developing sports infrastructure at the district level and even at high and middle schools levels, instructions have been passed to prepare teams of students in various sports disciplines. MLC Jugal Kishore in his address appreciated the organizers for holding the championship at Katra and assured full support in creating facilities for the game in Reasi district. Earlier, in his welcome address, President, J&K Fencing Association M. J. Sharma, IFS thanked all the persons and agencies for cooperating in holding the championship. He lauded the Contribution made by senior players in enriching and popularizing the game in the state. |
