J&K hosts NZ Sport Climbing meet in April

JAMMU, Mar 24: Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir today released its annual calendar of activities for the year 2013-14 in a function held here. The document was released president of the Association and Principal Secretary Secretary, Planning and Development, J&K, BR Sharma.
While releasing the calendar, the senior IAS officer hoped that the climbers would bring more laurels to the state in the forthcoming 1st Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Competition to be hosted by the Association from April 27. The calendar included 11 trekking expeditions, two mountaineering expeditions, an adventure camp, two sport climbing courses, a judges and route setters' course as also three preparatory camps before participation of the state team in the Zonal and National climbing competitions. "The Association shall also host the 1st Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Competition at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu besides participating in the Zonal and National Sport Climbing Competitions in addition to state championship and nine district climbing competitions," general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria told said.
The calendar of activities also mentioned about the prestigious mountaineering expedition to Matho Kangri peak in Ladakh. It also proposed hosting of other mountaineering expeditions to Kolhoi peak in Pahalgam area, trekking expeditions to Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Leh areas in J&K, Chamba and Manali in Himachal Pradesh and Goumukh in Uttrakhand. An adventure camp at Moungri in Udhampur district shall be organised. All these activities shall be conducted by affiliated clubs of the Association.
For the first time District Sport Climbing Competitions of Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama shall be held at the newly constructed sport climbing wall at TRC, Nowgam (Kashmir).
"The other six district competitions of Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Samba and Kathua shall be conducted by the Association at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore in Bantalab, Jammu," informed Khajuria. Prominent among others present were Association vice president, Yogeshwar Kumar, Everester, Ram Singh and Nissar Ahmad (both joint secretaries); Shamsher Singh (treasurer); MD Naqqash and Navneet Gupta (executive members).
