LONDON: French legend Zinedine Zidane has touted Tottenham Hotspur player Gareth Bale as the best player in Europe this season.
According to the Sun, the high endorsement of Bale will heighten fears among Tottenham fans that Real Madrid may make the north Londoners a lucrative offer for the footballer this summer, the Mirror reports.
Describing the 60 million-pound rated Bale as 'incomparable' and 'unique', the former World Cup winner said that although players like Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo are 'a cut above' their rivals, Bale has impressed him the most this season even though he is playing in the Europa League instead of the Champions League.
Although Zidane refused to put Bale on the same level as Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, he maintained the 'Tottenham talisman' is fast approaching superstar status, adding that he is different from Messi and Ronaldo.
Zidane further praised Bale, saying that Bale has a 'frightening' pace and added that his acceleration is unbelievable because of his ability to go through the gears in very little space.
Zidane also said that even though he had seen Bale only twice or thrice live, he was impressed by his performance, adding that Bale surprised him every time he got the ball. |
