Settlement Commissioner chairs meeting of Revenue officers in Kishtwar

kishtwar, Apr 3: Settlement Commissioner Mr. Latief Deva chaired a meeting of Revenue Officers and field functionaries of Kishtwar today Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mr. Saleem Mohd, Settlement Officer Jammu Mr. Inderjeet, and Additional Deputy Commissioner, R.K Shavan were also present in the meeting.
The DDC Kishtwar gave resume of the District Profile and informed the meeting that presently there are 156 Revenue villages and 4 Tehsils in the District covering an area of 7737 sq.kms including 45119 acres of agricultural land.
The Settlement Commissioner directed the officers to kick start the settlement operations in the district from Tehsil Chatroo and two Niabats of Tehsil Kishtwar Pakalan and Dool. He stressed that the primary focus of present settlement is Preparation, Maintenance and Retrieval of the record and use of modern technology will facilitate the whole operation. Measurement of land with ETS and Computerization of whole record will be a feather in the cap and facilitate the common masses he added .
The Settlement Commissioner further directed that Jamabandi Ravan should be the basis for the preparation of Misle Tamhidi and 150 groups comprising of Patwaris and Settlement Assistants would be constituted for the purpose. Wherever there are Forest areas, the Settlement would be done jointly by Revenue and Forest Department.
Mr Deva stressed that Land Revenue Act should be the basis for record compilation and the issues regarding bifurcation of villages would be dealt on the criteria of topography, population, natural boundaries and terrain of the area. He strictly warned the officials that non-performance would not be tolerated and such officials will be punished under the service rules. The best performing officials will also be rewarded suitably, he added.
Settlement Commissioner also inquired about the staff position in the Tehsils and assured all necessary help in this regard.
He informed the officials that Regional Director of Survey and Land Records will be posted at Doda besides a fully functional computer centre for the preparation of records in a time bound manner will also be set up and the whole settlement operation will be carried out through Electronic Total Station (ETS).
