| Bhalla dedicates Rs. 50 lakh tube well to Kanthu Mohallah residents | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 26: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Mr. Raman Bhalla today dedicated one lakh gallon discharge capacity deep drill tube well to the residents of Kanthu Mohallah, Friends Colony and its adjoining areas. The construction work of tube well, including laying of water supply pipes, has been completed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh under Water Supply Scheme Kanthu Mohallah. The scheme includes drilling, establishment of electrical, mechanical sub-stations and civil works. Addressing a largely attended public meeting after inauguration of the deep drill tube well , Mr. Bhalla said that on the commissioning of the tube well, a populace of about 5000 souls of Friends Colony, Kanthu Mohallah and its adjoining areas would get relief from shortage of drinking water . He said Government was determined to provide improved basic amenities to the people, adding that it has taken several bold decisions for development of core sectors in every nook and corner of the State. The Minister said that the Government was highly concerned about the scarcity of water supply in urban and their peripheral areas. He said a number of schemes have been taken up to provide and augment potable water facilities in these water stressed areas. He said that the Government was also working on a plan to modernize and revive all the traditional tanks and ponds in Kandhi areas of the State that have served as highly dependable source of water for the people of these areas since centuries. Mr. Bhalla called upon the people to conserve these resources by avoiding activities that create pollution. He also called for saving these from encroachment . The Minister said that the execution of developmental projects under various sectors, especially for upgradation of road connectivity, safe drinking water, power, health, education besides improved drainage system have been taken up on priority and are being completed in targeted time for the benefit of the masses of the State. Mr. Bhalla asked the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) to immediately start the laying of water supply pipes in uncovered and water deficit areas so that the people do not face any inconvenience due to shortage of this vital facility. Responding to the demand of the residents, Mr. Bhalla assured that their genuine demands would be redressed in a phased manner. He advised the people in general to use the power and drinking water judiciously and refrain from illegal hooking, pay electric and drinking water bills in time. Earlier, the Minister also laid foundation stone of Sulabh Complex at main stop at Gandhi Nagar, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 16 lakh. The Complex would be completed within 3 months by Jammu Municipal Corporation. |
