| Bhopal: Kasturba Gandhi hospital ceiling collapses, many trapped | | | Bhopal: The ceiling of a hospital in the BHEL township of Bhopal collapsed on Friday evening. Close to 20 people are feared trapped under the debris at Kasturba Gandhi hospital which is run by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). According to sources, the section of the building that collapsed housed the women's medical ward and had 26 beds. There were around 18 to 20 patients admitted in the ward at the time. Sources said that at least 7 people, including a child, had been rescued. The rescue operations are still underway and 7 people have been rescued so far. The hospital is run by BHEL. While the rescue operations are still underway, there have been no casualties so far. "There has been no deaths so far," the Bhopal IG said. He added that the two-storey building was old which perhaps led to the collapse. Some of the patients at the 350-bed hospital have been evacuated to other hospitals, sources added. Kasturba hospital, one of the biggest and oldest hospitals in Bhopal city, provides free treatment to BHEL employees. |
