| MGNREGA rejuvenated the rural economy: Mir | | | SRINAGAR: Saying that MGNREGA has rejuvenated the rural economy, Minister for Agricultural, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir Wednesday emphasised for hassle free involvement of Panchyati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in flagship programmes which could change the topography of Rural J&K. The Minister said this while reviewing the progress of rural development programmes in Tangmarg and its adjacent areas at a high level meeting. The Minister said that the rural development has pivotal role in strengthening the basic pillar of the democratic institution and steps are afoot to percolate the benefits of the department to the people of the State. He said that with the passage of time these institutions would grow and their impact in transformation of rural economy would be more visible. Mr. Mir asked the officers of rural development to conduct Dehi ‘Majalis”’ before approval of development plan of the respective panchayats as people’s involvement is the primary concept of democracy. The meeting discussed threadbare the various developmental plans of different Panchayats of the area and stressed upon the concerned officers to ensure regular monitoring of executed works. The Minister was informed that Rs 16.21 cr was expended under MGNREGA in Tangmarg Constituency during last year and 2969 works were in hand under the programme, out of which 1942 works were completed. About 6.30 lakh man-days have been generated during the period. Similarly under IAY, 1097 houses have been taken up out of which 623 houses have been completed. |
