Sham inaugurates Tube Well, High School building at Sumah
‘Provision for vocational Education, better civic amenities in Hilly areas Govt’s Priority’

JAMMU: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood & Control Mr. Sham Lal Sharma inaugurated a newly constructed Tube Well under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and High School Building constructed under Rashtriya Madyamic Shikasha Abiyan(RMSA) at Sumah, Akhnoor .
The Tube well has been constructed at a cost of Rs 69 crore, while Rs.50 lakh have been incurred on the construction of the School building. The total estimated cost of the Water Supply Scheme which also include other civil and mechanical works is estimated to cost Rs.1.50 crore.
The double storey school building with 5000 sq. feet ground area have 10 Class rooms, Office room, Art, Craft and Culture room, Science Laboratory, Library, Computer room and Toilet block.
Mr. Sham Lal Sharma said that with the commissioning of this Tube Well a population of 7000 souls of Sumah, Smothi and adjoining vilages would get drinking water facility. He asked the PHE authorities to lay water supply pipes in the un-covered areas and urged the people to use drinking water judiciously. He also appealed the people to extend cooperation to the executive agencies for better and effective implementation of development programme and schemes.
Emphasizing the need to involve Panchs, Sarpanchs and public in the revival and maintenance of traditional water reservoirs, Mr. Sham said that these have served as perennial source of water in Kndi areas since centuries. He also described Akhnoor tehsil as water scarcity zone and said that the government was paying focused attention on kandi areas to augment drinking water as well as irrigation facilities. He directed the concerned Engineers/Officers to undertake cleaning and augmentation of existing Dug well as well as Tube wells of the areas.
The Minister said Sumah has a great religious and heritage significance where a large number of devotees visit every year on religious occasions. He informed that Rs. 5 crores project has been launched last year to develop it as heritage site by Government of India under Border Area Tourism Development Programm. He said that the project was being executed by Tourism Department and the Government has declared all monuments as State Projected heritage sites, adding that the whooping amount was being expended on the restoration and conservation of these heritage sites in the area.
After dedicating the School building, Mr. Sham said that better human resource is pre-requisite for economic and moral growth of a nation, adding that the Government has taken several steps to universalize Education with a blend of courses having market demand. He said that the Government endeavours to make the State Cent-percent literate and expand the reach of skilled and professional education across the State . He said that during last over four years scores of new Primary Schools have been opened and the existing up-graded to the next level to provide education facilities to children across the State. He asked the Teachers fraternity to provide quality education to the students so that they would become good citizens of the Country.
Regarding development, the Minister said that during this period several projects have been taken in hand in Akhnoor Tehsil like 100 bedded Hospital, Mini Sectt., Heritage site Complex, Community Halls, Vegetable market, Ayurvedic and Nursing College, ITI and Navodhya Vidyalaya etc. Mr. Sham said massive road connectivity Programme has been launched with a view to accelerate economic activities in the far-flung and hilly areas.
The people of the area apprised the Minister about the problems and put forth various demands which included flood protection, Bank Counter, Mini Stadium, up-gradation of local road, school ground, Boundary wall etc. The Minister assured them that their genuine demands would be fulfilled on priority.
Chief Engineer, PHE & Flood Control Mr. K.K. Gupta, S.E. Hydraulic Mr. Susheel Kumar Aima, SDM Tehsildar, ZEO, Executive Engineers, PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control Ground Water and PMGSY, Sectoral Officers, Sarpanchs & Panchs were present on the occasion.
