| ANC concerned over power, water shortage in Jammu | | | Jammu, June 11 : Awami National Conference (ANC) has expressed grave concern over alleged failure of state government in providing proper supply of drinking water and power in Jammu region. Expressing disappointment over the way govt has handled the issue so far, ANC Provincial President Gian Singh said protests against the unscheduled and long power cuts as well as water scarcity in the Jammu City have been gaining momentum as the people are taking to streets with each passing day. "But surprisingly the government has other priorities, surely not to ensure power and water supply in this scorching heat," he said. "Despite paying regular bills the people are subjected to long power cuts and are deprived of drinking water, while ministers, bureaucrats, VIPs whose hefty bills are pending are enjoying power for 24 hours through special line," he said. Singh held the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah responsible for the 'failure' of the PDD and huge power cuts in the Jammu city "as he did nothing to solve the power crises in his four and half years tenure and discriminated with the people of the Jammu." "The situation is very grim in Jammu where the residents were facing a torture in the form of frequent power failure in the searing heat of 47 degrees Celsius plus. Only viable solution to the power crisis in Jammu and Kashmir is a comprehensive policy to address the electricity crisis affecting day-to-day life in the state," he said. |
