Ch. Ramzan, Mian Altaf inaugurate mechanical weighing bridge at Sonamarg

SONAMARG: Minister for CA&PD, Transport, Ch. Mohammad Ramzan in presence of Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad inaugurated Mechanical Weighing Bridge at Sonamarg today. The bridge constructed by Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA)within the truck terminal is spread over 60 kanal of land and has been completed at a cost of Rs 81 lakh. The Truck Terminal with modern facilities has been developed by SDA at a cost of Rs. 2.74 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Ch. Ramzan appreciated the initiative taken by the transport department and the efforts of SDA for construction of the bridge within a shortest period of time.
The Minister said that the installation of the bridge would not only bring efficiency in clearing the loaded trucks for onward Journey to Leh and Kargil districts but also ensure transparency in the system. He said Government is contemplating to install GPRS system in the vehicles to keep track of the movement of trucks and other passenger vehicles.
Ramzan said that it has become imperative to replace the old manual weighing system by digital mechanical system in view of the increasing demand and means of transport in the State.
Underliningthe need for close coordination between Police and Transport department, the Minister said that new facility would help in checking road accident on Srinagar-Leh national highway caused due to overloading.
Referring to the dilapidated condition of the road from Sonamarg to Captain Morh and India Gate, the Minister assured that the matter would be taken up with the concerned agency for carrying out necessary repairs on the rundown portion of the road.
Regarding ration supply issue of the constituency, the Minister said that in view of topography and expansion of habitations more food stores would be opened to cater to the needs of nomads living in the area. He said SRTC bus would be deployed on the routes which lack this facility as yet.
Mian Altaf while speaking on the occasion said that tourist related infrastructure created by the Government and by private agencies would help in improving the economic status of the locals. He asked people to play their role in preserving the infrastructure created at the destination.
“Tourists are our esteemed guests” said the Minister and asked locals to take proper care of the tourists visiting the place. He said the people of the Valley are famous for hospitality and asked locals and other persons associated with tourism industryto give better services, show hospitality politeness and courtesy while dealing with the visiting tourists.
Mian Altaf said that construction of weighing bridge away from main market was aimed to decongest the area for visiting tourists.
“No truck heading Ladakh would be allowed to park in the main market” said the Minister, adding that measures taken by SDA would add to the beauty of this tourist destination.
Regional Transport Officer presented the vote of thanks and said that effortsare being made to make the transport system more transparent and smooth in the Valley.
Transport Commissioner, Sanjiv Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafiz, Director, CA&PD, Mir Mushtaq Ahmad, RTO, Kashmir, Mr. Anees Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer, SDA, Mohammad Yosuf besides other senior officers of transport department were present on the occasion.
