Workshop on NPR and Biometric enrolment of residents

BUDGAM: A workshop on Biometric enrolment for National Population Register (NPR) for collecting specific information of each resident for obtaining multipurpose smart (Aadhaar) card was organized in the Conference Hall under the Chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Shah here today.
Joint Chief Principal Census Officer, J&K State, Mr. C.S. Sapru presided in the daylong workshop which was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Director Evaluation, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, all the Tehsildars, Executive Officers besides others concerned. The Joint Chief Principal Census Officer briefed the participants about NPR and its importance. He urged upon the officer and other concerned to render full cooperation to the teams of Census Department to get the work completed in stipulated period. Highlighting the objectives of this scheme, Mr. Sapru said this will enable to create a comprehensive identity database with full identification and other details by registering each person for targeting of benefits and services available under 26 Government schemes and programmes including direct cash transfer to the card holder. He said the resident identity (Smart) card proposed under the scheme is meant for usual residents who are of 18 years age and above.
Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner, Budgam, who is also District Registration Authority, said that it is a basic and important work on the basis of which different schemes of government are implemented and projected. He also urged the people to attend the photograph biometric camps organized by the Electronic Corporation of India Limited with the support of local administration in the respective areas to facilitate enrolment of the residents. He said the scheme is aimed for the welfare of the residents and it is basically use of technology for efficient delivery of services and he also assured full cooperation and support to the concerned department from the district administration.
