Jora inaugurates pedestrian mall at Dalgate
Interacts with dal dwellers, listened their grievances

SRINAGAR: Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today reiterated the commitment of the Government to properly rehabilitate all affected dal dwellers at newly developed Colony at Bemina with all the latest facilities.
He said this while inaugurating 180-meter pedestrian mall from Khon Khan Dal Gate to Dal Lock Gate. The pedestrian path has been constructed at a cost of Rs 7.50 lakh by the LAWDA.
Chairperson State Women Commission and MLA, Habbakadal, Mtr Shamima Firdous, Commissioner/Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Jeet Lal Gupta, Vice Chairman, LAWDA, Mr. Irfan Yasin and other senior officers and engineer of the concerned departments were also present on the occasion.
Interacting with the dal dwellers, the Minister said that the government was aware about their problems and all possible steps are being taken to mitigate them in phased manner. He said the interests of all the affected dal dwellers will be safeguarded and they will be rehabilitated properly.
Responding to their demands pertaining to drinking water, regular power supply being a tourist hub, the Minister issued instructions to the officers to replace the outlived street lights with new ones and also directed LAWDA to take sewerage project in hand under National Lake Conservation Project (NLCP). He issued instructions to the concerned to pay special attention to beatification of the place as the area is heavily crowed by the tourists from across the globe. He further said that by construction of pedestrian mall, the Dal dwellers and Tourists will be benefitted to move towards the House Boats without any inconvenience.
Mtr Firdous expressed gratitude to the Minister for paying special attention to improve basic infrastructure, especially around the Dal Lake area which is crowed by the tourists round the year. She called for taking more steps to beautify the entire stretch of Dal Lake for the attraction of tourists. She stressed the need for developing public utility facilities at different places around the dal for the convenience of tourists and locals. Earlier, locals put forth some demands before the Minister including construction of drains, uninterrupted power supply, construction of park, maintenance of footpaths, rehabilitation of Dal dwellers and opening of government primary school and implementation of all the centrally sponsored programmes.
