SRINAGAR : A meeting of Environment Committee of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Dr. Bashir Ahmed Shah (Veeri). Legislators, Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah, Mr. Showket Hussain Ganie were also present in the meeting. The Committee discussed the issues related to framing of State Action Plan for climate change to address concerns of States fragile environment. The Committee discussed that the past 22 years have vandalize over Forest, Ecology, Lakes, rivers, water bodies and other spheres of Bio-diversity of the State. The Committee held threadbare discussions on disposal of Bio-medical Waste, installation of Sewerage Treatment Plant at Industrial Estates in J&K, conservation of Dal Lake, protection of wet lands, impact of cement factories, stone crushers, Power projects, brick kilns, etc on States environment. The Committee also expressed condolence for the victims of Uttrakhand disaster and maintained that disturbances to the natural landscape might have significantly contributed to such wide spread destruction. Secretary, Legislative Council, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Deputy Secretary, Legislative Council, Mr. Ishfaq Ahmed Wani besides other officials of Council Secretariat were also present on the occasion. |
