| Com Secy PHE reviews work on Ravi - Tawi Irrigation Project | | | early times report
JAMMU, June 28 : Commissioner Secretary, PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation, Pawan Kotwal, today convened an officers meeting to review the progress of work on Ravi - Tawi Irrigation Project. The Commissioner was informed that joint inspection of the proposed project area extension of main Ravi Canal from Basantpur stream of Ranjit Sagar Dam in Thein Wild Life Conservation Reserve was conducted by the officers of wild life department and PHE and report in this regard has been submitted to the concerned department for necessary clearance. The Collector Ravi Tawi Irrigation informed the meeting that the process of land acquisition for about six km stretch has been initiated and will be completed soon. It is pertinent to mention that this ambitious project on completion shall provide irrigation facility to about 1.3 lakh acres of land in arid areas of Kathua and Samba which would help in increasing the agriculture production worth Rs. 250 crore every year. Later, the Commissioner Secretary also inspected the ongoing works on Tawi Barrage. Kotwal instructed the concerned officers to ensure protective measures for the site to avoid any damage. He also reviewed the irrigation facilities being provided to the farmers and stressed on making water available to the farmers up to the tail end.
